Bitmain Announces 110TH/S Bitcoin ASIC S19 Pro

Bitmain, the world’s leading crypto mining hardware manufacturer, announced two new bitcoin mining models, Antminer S19 Pro and S19, which boast to offer “incredible performance”.

According to specs revealed, the S19 Pro, described as “the future of mining”, could offer a maximum hash rate of 110 TH/s with a power efficiency of 29.5 J/TH. Based on the figures, it would be the most powerful bitcoin mining machine in the world. The entry model S19 delivers a hash rate of 90 TH/s with an advertised 34.5 J/TH energy efficiency ratio.

Compared to its Antminer 17 series launched months ago, the hash rate of the new iteration S19 Pro is double that of T17+, and almost 10x that of the firm’s original flagship ASIC miner Antminer S9 (12.9TH/s) launched four years ago. While the pricing of the two new miners remains unknown and delivery date to be determined.

Bitmain has held its position as the dominant crypto mining hardware maker since 2017, but the mining giant has seen its market share decrease to about 65% from 2018’s 75%, with plans of 50% cut in its workforce and the internal power struggle in which co-founder and the then CEO Micree Zhan was kicked out of the company by the other co-founder Jihan Wu.

Despite the turmoil, the company has been developing more powerful technology to compete in 2020 when bitcoin block reward will be halved in the upcoming May and bitcoin miner’s much-needed cheap hydropower delivered by the wet season in southwest China’s Sichuan will restart almost in the same month.

To take advantage of the following critical events, Bitmain is taking the lead this year with the announcement of its next-gen 100T+ mining models, which indicates its ambition to regain its lost market share.

While the production capacity remains a question as mining hardware largely depends on the supply of wafers from semiconductor companies like TSMC which will first satisfy smartphone demand ahead of the crypto business. In addition, the coronavirus outbreak in the country has delayed manufacturing and logistics.

According to the company’s website, its last flagship models Antminer 17 series are all futures orders scheduled for delivery during April 11-20, it remains to be seen whether Bitmain will be the first to ship out the 100TH/s+ miners.
